Printing from Andean Textiles

Year 7 pupils from Ullswater College spent a creative morning working with printmaker Alan Birch. Using the current show of Andean textiles as a starting point, pupils produced line drawings based on the patterns and shapes found in the pieces. From these drawings,  pupils produced some colourful and textured prints using wallpaper and water based printing inks. This was the first visit to the Whitworth  for many of the  class of nearly 30 pupils, and their work was outstanding.

” Thanks so much for this, we’re really looking forward to the workshop. We did an etching workshop with you about two years ago at the Whitworth which was fab and last year I took my own children to Manchester Museum and you were doing this relief printing there (I thought it was fantastic!). ”
