Saints Alive!
Alan Birch is currently working on a new series of mono prints and etchings, based on medieval saints. Inspired by seeing a series of woodcarvings in the Wellcome collection in London, these saintly figures were used to alleviate medical conditions.Alan has brought these into the contemporary world by combining saints from early illustrations and adding objects from contemporary society. The series was also kicked off by my discovery that Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini had been to church on the final day of last season. Having witnessed the emotions and events of that day first hand, I simply had to work on St Last Minute!The Patron Saint of last minute miracles!
